Microeconomics studies the behaviour of individual economic units - a consumer, a firm, a household or an industry - and the determination of individual prices, demand, supply and factor rewards. It is also known as price theory.

Meaning

The term 'micro' comes from the Greek word mikros, meaning small. Microeconomics is therefore the study of the economic behaviour of small, individual units of the economy. It examines how a single consumer spends income, how a single firm decides output and price, how the price of a particular commodity is determined, and how rewards of individual factors (rent, wages, interest, profit) are fixed.
