The total pressure of a mixture of non-reacting gases equals the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases.

Consider a vessel containing a mixture of several gases that do not react chemically with one another, all at the same temperature. The partial pressure of a gas is the pressure it would exert if it alone occupied the entire volume of the vessel at that temperature.

Dalton's law of partial pressures states that the total pressure P exerted by the mixture is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the constituent gases:
