Cardiac muscle is fatigue-resistant because of its rich blood supply, many large mitochondria and myoglobin for continuous aerobic respiration, and its rhythmic contraction with a resting period after each beat.

Justification:

  • The heart contracts and relaxes continuously throughout life without rest, so its muscle must not fatigue.
  • Cardiac muscle fibres have a VERY RICH BLOOD SUPPLY (many capillaries), which continuously provides oxygen and nutrients and removes waste (lactic acid does not accumulate).
  • They contain NUMEROUS LARGE MITOCHONDRIA and abundant MYOGLOBIN, so energy (ATP) is produced by aerobic respiration steadily and in plenty.
  • The fibres are branched and joined by intercalated discs, so they contract as a single unit rhythmically (myogenic), and each contraction is followed by a RESTING (refractory) period, giving the muscle brief rest after every beat. …
