Organisation Structure of SEBI

As SEBI is a statutory body, there has been a considerable expansion in the range and scope of its activities. It has organised its activities into five operational departments, each headed by an executive director. Apart from its head office at Mumbai, SEBI has opened regional offices at Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi to attend to investor complaints and to liaise with issuers, intermediaries and stock exchanges in their region.

SEBI has also formed two advisory committees — the Primary Market Advisory Committee and the Secondary Market Advisory Committee — consisting of market players, recognised investors' associations and eminent persons in the capital market. The objectives of these committees are:

a. To advise SEBI on the regulation of intermediaries to ensure investor protection in the primary market.

b. To advise SEBI on the development of the primary market in India.

c. To advise SEBI on disclosure requirements for companies.

d. To advise on changes in the legal framework to bring simplification and transparency in the primary market. …
