Hawkers and pedlars belong to the group of itinerant (mobile) retailers in internal trade. They do not keep a permanent shop. They carry a small quantity of goods on a handcart, a bicycle, a basket on the head or in the hand, and move about from one locality to another, from street to street and even from door to door, offering their goods to customers. They usually deal in inexpensive articles of daily use such as fruits, vegetables, snacks, toys, bangles, cloth and small household items. The difference between the two is slight: a pedlar generally carries the goods on his person (head or hand), while a hawker often uses a cart or cycle.
