Road transport moves goods and people by vehicles over roads. Its merits are flexibility, door-to-door service, low capital need, economy over short distances, reach to remote areas, less packing and being a feeder to rail/ports; its demerits are unsuitability for long-distance and heavy goods, limited capacity, slowness over distance, weather dependence and higher accident risk.

  7. Suitable for perishable goods — quick delivery over short distances suits vegetables, milk, fruit, etc.
  8. Feeder service — it links farms, factories, railway stations and ports, feeding other modes of transport.

Demerits (disadvantages)

  1. Unsuitable for long distances — slow and costly for far-off places compared with rail. …
