A fermentor is the large-scale bioreactor vessel in which microbes are cultured industrially, with controlled temperature, pH, aeration and agitation, to manufacture commercial biological products.

Fermentors are large vessels (bioreactors) in which raw materials are biologically converted, using microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, yeast) or enzymes, into specific desired products on a commercial/industrial scale. They allow the optimum growth conditions - temperature, pH, substrate concentration, oxygen supply/aeration, and agitation - to be closely monitored and controlled so that the microbial culture grows well and produces the maximum yield of the desired product.
