What are nucleic acids

Nucleic acids are biopolymers found in the nucleus of living cells, made up of a long chain of monomer units called nucleotides. Each nucleotide is composed of three parts: a nitrogenous base (purine or pyrimidine), a pentose sugar (ribose in RNA, deoxyribose in DNA), and a phosphate group. There are two types of nucleic acids: deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA).
