Sky wave propagation sends radio waves to distant points by reflecting them off the ionosphere; it works in about the 3-30 MHz range.

In sky wave propagation, radio waves radiated by the transmitting antenna travel upward and are reflected (actually refracted back) by the ionosphere - the ionised layers of Earth's upper atmosphere. The waves return to Earth far from the transmitter, allowing communication over long distances (thousands of kilometres) via one or more such reflections.
