Incomplete dominance produces a blended, intermediate phenotype in the heterozygote because neither allele fully masks the other; the pink flower colour of Mirabilis jalapa is the classic example.

Incomplete dominance is a phenomenon in which the F1 hybrid (heterozygote) resulting from a cross between two homozygous parents shows a phenotype that is intermediate between the two parental phenotypes, i.e. neither of the two alleles is completely dominant over the other, and both contribute to the observed phenotype.

Example - Mirabilis jalapa (the four o'clock plant; snapdragon shows the same pattern):
