M.W. Beijerinck, option (B), coined the term Contagium vivum fluidum.

The discovery of viruses unfolded in stages. Dmitri Ivanowsky first recognised, in 1892, that the microbes causing tobacco mosaic disease were smaller than bacteria, since they passed through bacteria-proof filters. In 1898, M.W. Beijerinck went further, demonstrating that an extract from infected tobacco plants could transmit infection to healthy plants, and he named this infectious fluid Contagium vivum fluidum — infectious living fluid. Later, in 1935, W.M. Stanley showed that these agents could actually be crystallised and that the crystals consisted largely of protein. …
