McCarthy's 4 P's — Product, Price, Place and Promotion — are the four controllable elements that make up the marketing mix.

The marketing mix is the combination of controllable variables a firm uses to satisfy its target customers. E. Jerome McCarthy classified these into four P's:

  1. Product — the goods or services offered, including quality, features, design, branding, packaging, labelling and after-sales support. The product must satisfy customer needs.
  2. Price — the value the customer pays. It covers the pricing method, list price, discounts, credit terms and margins; price strongly influences demand and competitiveness.
