Section of mammary gland: milk-secreting alveoli → mammary tubules → mammary duct → ampulla → lactiferous duct → nipple, packed in adipose tissue; draw and label these.

Structure to draw (with labels). The paired mammary glands are modified sweat glands. In a sectional view show, from inside outward and toward the nipple:

  1. Mammary lobes — 15–20 lobes forming the glandular tissue, embedded in adipose (fatty) connective tissue.
  2. Alveoli — sac-like, grape-cluster structures lined by milk-secreting epithelial (cuboidal) cells; milk is stored in their cavities.
  3. Mammary tubules — fine ducts leaving the alveoli.
  4. Mammary duct — tubules of a lobe join to form a duct.
  5. Mammary ampulla — several mammary ducts widen and join to form this small chamber that temporarily stores milk.
  6. Lactiferous duct — the ampulla continues as this duct that carries milk to the exterior.
