Antibiotics are microbe-produced chemicals that kill/inhibit other microbes; produced by Penicillium and Streptomyces.

Definition. Antibiotics are chemical substances produced by some microorganisms that can kill or retard the growth of other (disease-causing) microbes, even in low concentrations. They are used to treat bacterial and fungal infections. ('Antibiotic' literally means 'against life'.)
