When a pollen grain lands on a compatible stigma, it germinates. The structure to be drawn and labelled is as follows (described here since the diagram is student-drawn):

  • Exine: the tough, sculptured outer wall of the pollen grain, made of sporopollenin, with one or more thin regions called germ pores.
  • Intine: the thin, inner wall of cellulose and pectin.
  • Germ pore: the region of the exine through which the pollen tube comes out.
  • Pollen tube: a tube that grows out of the germ pore and elongates towards the ovule.
