Stock = measured at a point in time; flow = measured over a period of time.

A stock has no time dimension attached beyond the specific instant it is measured — e.g., 'the capital of a firm as on 31st March 2024' or 'the wealth of a household today'. A flow, by contrast, is meaningless without specifying the time period over which it is measured — e.g., 'income earned during the financial year 2023-24' or 'investment made during the year'.
