Stock = measured at a point in time; Flow = measured over a period. Capital is a stock; Net Investment is a flow (the addition to that stock).

A Stock variable has no meaning without specifying the exact point in time at which it is measured (e.g., 'capital as on 31st March 2026'). A Flow variable has no meaning without specifying the PERIOD over which it is measured (e.g., 'investment during the financial year 2025-26').

Capital is the total accumulated stock of produced means of production (machinery, buildings, equipment) a firm or economy possesses at a given moment — it is a STOCK. Net Investment is the ADDITION made to this capital stock during a specific period (Net Investment = Gross Investment − Depreciation) — it is a FLOW.
