Short-run TC = TFC + TVC, computed at every level of output.

In the short run, a firm has some inputs that are fixed (plant, machinery) whose cost — Total Fixed Cost — does not change with output (it stays the same even at zero output), and other inputs that are variable (labour, raw materials) whose cost — Total Variable Cost — rises as output rises (it is zero at zero output and increases with each additional unit produced).
