Bohr's model rests on quantised stable orbits and quantised angular momentum, with photons emitted/absorbed only on transitions.

Main question -- Postulates of Bohr's model:

  1. Electrons revolve around the nucleus only in certain stable, non-radiating circular orbits (stationary states), in which they do not emit electromagnetic radiation despite being accelerated.

  2. Electrons can revolve only in those orbits for which the orbital angular momentum is an integral multiple of h/2πh/2\pi: L=mvr=nh2πL = mvr = \dfrac{nh}{2\pi}, where n=1,2,3,...n = 1, 2, 3, ... is the principal quantum number.

  3. An electron can jump from one stationary orbit to another. When it jumps from a higher energy orbit EiE_i to a lower one EfE_f, it emits a photon; to jump from lower to higher, it absorbs a photon -- of energy exactly equal to the energy difference: hν=Ei−Efh\nu = E_i - E_f.

OR -- Einstein's photoelectric equation:

Kmax=eV0=hν−ϕ0K_{max} = eV_0 = h\nu - \phi_0, where ϕ0\phi_0 is the work function of the metal.

Effect of frequency: Increasing the frequency ν\nu of incident light (above the threshold frequency ν0\nu_0) increases the maximum kinetic energy of the emitted photoelectrons (and hence the stopping potential V0V_0), since KmaxK_{max} depends linearly on ν\nu. It does not change the photoelectric current, since current depends on the number of photoelectrons, not their energy.
