Every moving particle has a matter wave of wavelength λ=h/p=h/mv\lambda=h/p=h/mv.

Concept — matter waves. Louis de Broglie proposed that, just as light shows both wave and particle behaviour, every moving material particle (electron, proton, etc.) has a wave associated with it, called a matter wave or de-Broglie wave. The particle's wave nature becomes noticeable only for very small masses/momenta.

Derivation of λ=h/p\lambda = h/p. For a photon, energy is

E=hν=hcλE = h\nu = \frac{hc}{\lambda}

and from mass–energy equivalence a photon of momentum pp has energy

E=pcE = pc

Equating the two:

pc=hcλ  ⇒  λ=hppc = \frac{hc}{\lambda} \;\Rightarrow\; \lambda = \frac{h}{p}

de Broglie extended this to material particles of momentum p=mvp=mv:

λ=hp=hmv\boxed{\lambda = \frac{h}{p} = \frac{h}{mv}}
