Photocell circuit: light on cathode C, collector A, reversible variable voltage, ammeter for photocurrent, voltmeter for stopping potential; four key experimental conclusions.

Apparatus: An evacuated glass/quartz tube contains a photosensitive metal plate (cathode, C) and a collector plate (anode, A). Monochromatic light of a chosen frequency and intensity falls on C through a quartz window, ejecting photoelectrons. A battery, connected through a potential divider/rheostat with a reversing commutator (so the polarity across A and C can be reversed), applies an accelerating or retarding potential between A and C. A milliammeter in series measures the resulting photoelectric current, and a voltmeter measures the potential difference between the plates.
