Wavelength increases, frequency decreases, speed in vacuum is unchanged, and the transverse character of the waves is unchanged, on going from UV to IR across the electromagnetic spectrum.

The electromagnetic spectrum is arranged in order of increasing wavelength (or decreasing frequency) from gamma rays through X-rays, UV, visible, IR, microwaves, to radio waves. Moving from the ultraviolet region towards the infrared region:

  1. Wavelength (λ\lambda) increases (UV has shorter wavelengths, IR has longer wavelengths).
  2. Frequency (ν\nu) decreases, since c=νλc = \nu\lambda is constant and λ\lambda increases.
  3. Speed remains the same — all electromagnetic waves travel at the speed of light c=3×108 m/sc = 3\times10^8\,\text{m/s} in vacuum, regardless of wavelength/frequency.
  4. Transverse nature is unchanged — every electromagnetic wave, from gamma rays to radio waves, is transverse in nature (oscillating E⃗\vec E and B⃗\vec B fields perpendicular to each other and to the direction of propagation); this does not change across the spectrum. OR …
