Figure — Main alternative is a hard draw gate: 'Explain with the help of a diagram' how a prism bends light 90deg by TI

A 45-45-90 prism turns light through 90° by total internal reflection at its hypotenuse face.

Consider a right-angled isosceles (45°-45°-90°) prism. A ray incident normally on one of the shorter faces enters without bending. It then strikes the hypotenuse (long) face at an angle of incidence of 45∘45^\circ, which is greater than the critical angle of glass (≈42∘\approx42^\circ for n≈1.5n\approx1.5). Since the angle of incidence exceeds the critical angle, the ray undergoes total internal reflection at the hypotenuse and is turned through 90∘90^\circ, then exits normally through the other short face without further bending. [FIGURE: right-angle prism with a ray entering perpendicular to one face, striking the hypotenuse at 45°, and reflecting out perpendicular to the adjacent face, net deviation 90°.]
