The coin toss has n(S1)=2n(S_1) = 2 possible outcomes (H,TH, T), and the die roll has n(S2)=6n(S_2) = 6 possible outcomes (11 through 66), and the two are performed together (independently of each other).

By the multiplication principle (§1), the combined sample space has n(S)=n(S1)×n(S2)=2×6=12n(S) = n(S_1) \times n(S_2) = 2 \times 6 = 12 sample points.

Each sample point pairs one coin outcome with one die outcome: S={(H,1),(H,2),(H,3),(H,4),(H,5),(H,6),(T,1),(T,2),(T,3),(T,4),(T,5),(T,6)}S = \{(H,1),(H,2),(H,3),(H,4),(H,5),(H,6),(T,1),(T,2),(T,3),(T,4),(T,5),(T,6)\}. …
