Here L=₹10,000L=₹10{,}000, with successive discounts d1=20%d_1=20\% and d2=10%d_2=10\%.

Step 1 — Apply the first discount.

L(1−20100)=10,000×0.8=₹8,000L\left(1-\frac{20}{100}\right) = 10{,}000\times0.8 = ₹8{,}000

Step 2 — Apply the second discount to this reduced price, NOT to the original ₹10,000.

8,000(1−10100)=8,000×0.9=₹7,2008{,}000\left(1-\frac{10}{100}\right) = 8{,}000\times0.9 = ₹7{,}200

So the net price is N=₹7,200N=₹7{,}200.

Step 3 — Find the equivalent single discount rate.

(1−NL)×100=(1−7,20010,000)×100=0.28×100=28%\left(1-\frac{N}{L}\right)\times100 = \left(1-\frac{7{,}200}{10{,}000}\right)\times100 = 0.28\times100 = 28\%

Note that this is less than the naive sum 20%+10%=30%20\%+10\%=30\%, because the second 10%10\% discount was computed on 8,0008{,}000, not on the full 10,00010{,}000.

✓Final answer

Net price =₹7,200= ₹7{,}200; equivalent single discount =28%= 28\%.
