A pie diagram is a circle divided into sectors whose areas (angles) are proportional to the component values of a total. The angle for each component = (component value ÷ total value) × 360 degrees. It is used to show how a total is divided among its parts.

Meaning

A pie diagram (also called a circular diagram) is a way of presenting data in which a circle is divided into several sectors or slices, each sector standing for a component part of the total.

The angle of each sector is made proportional to the value of the component it represents, so that the whole circle (360 degrees) represents the total. The angle for any component is calculated as:

Angle of a component = (Value of the component / Total value) × 360 degrees.
