Black body: A perfectly black body is one that absorbs completely all the radiation (of every wavelength) that falls on it, reflecting and transmitting none. When heated to a high temperature, it also emits radiation of all wavelengths and is therefore the best possible emitter at that temperature. A small hole in a hollow cavity acts as a near-perfect black body.
Wien's displacement law: The radiation emitted by a black body has a continuous spectrum with a peak at a particular wavelength λ_max. Wien's displacement law states that this wavelength of maximum energy emission is inversely proportional to the absolute temperature T of the body:
λ_max ∝ 1/T, i.e. λ_max·T = b,
where b = 2.9 × 10^-3 m·K is Wien's constant.
