Wien's displacement law: the wavelength of maximum emission of a black body is inversely proportional to its absolute temperature, lambda_m T = b (b = 2.9 x 10^-3 m K).

A black body emits radiation over a continuous range of wavelengths, but the intensity is not the same at all wavelengths - there is a particular wavelength lambda_m at which the emitted intensity is maximum.

Wien's displacement law states: The wavelength lambda_m corresponding to the maximum intensity of radiation emitted by a black body is inversely proportional to the absolute temperature T of the body.

lambda_m proportional to 1/T

or

lambda_m T = b (a constant)

where b is Wien's constant, b = 2.9 x 10^-3 m K.
