Wien's displacement law states that a hotter black body's spectral emission peaks at a shorter wavelength: lambda_m * T = b (a constant).

Every body radiates electromagnetic energy across a spectrum of wavelengths, with the intensity being maximum at a particular wavelength, lambda_m, that depends on the body's temperature.

Wien's displacement law states that the wavelength lambda_m corresponding to the maximum emissive power of a black body is inversely proportional to its absolute temperature T:

lambda_m proportional to 1/T

or

lambda_m * T = b

where b is Wien's constant, with an experimentally determined value of about 2.898 x 10^-3 m K.
