The second stanza shows the mother laughing, years later, at her own photograph - a laugh weighted with more than amusement.

Building on the photograph described in the first stanza, the second stanza moves forward in time to show the mother, now grown, coming across the old snapshot again some twenty or thirty years afterward. She laughs at it, amused by how dated the fashions look and by the sight of her own younger self.
