Tutankhamun's first, most famous discovery came in 1922, when Howard Carter located his tomb still largely undisturbed after thousands of years, a find that made global headlines. That was far from the last discovery, however. Decades later, in 1968, an X-ray of the mummy turned up a detail invisible to Carter's generation, a loose bone fragment that opened new questions about how the king had died. The story continued again in 2005, when a CT scan produced far more detailed images than any earlier technique, allowing scientists to revisit old theories about his death and health with much greater precision. …
