- CT scan — Computed Tomography scan: a technique that combines many cross-sectional X-rays into a detailed three-dimensional image of the body (the very method used on Tut).
- MRI — Magnetic Resonance Imaging: uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves (no X-rays) to produce detailed images of the body's soft tissues and organs.
- tomography — imaging of the body in sections or 'slices'; a picture built up from cross-sections.
- autopsy — a detailed examination of a dead body to discover the cause of death (also called a post mortem).
- dialysis — a process that artificially removes waste and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys have failed.
- ECG — Electrocardiogram: a record of the electrical activity of the heart, used to check its rhythm and health.
- post mortem — literally 'after death'; an examination of a corpse to determine how and why the person died (same as an autopsy).
