The Trans-Siberian Railway connects Moscow to Vladivostok across Russia. The easternmost terminal is Vladivostok, the key agro centre is Omsk, and the westernmost terminal lies near the Baltic Sea.

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the world's longest continuous railway line, spanning roughly 9,300 km across Russia from Europe to the Pacific coast. Built between 1891 and 1916, it was designed to integrate the vast Siberian territories with European Russia, facilitate resource extraction, and project strategic power across the continent. Understanding its geography requires recognizing the major nodes along the route and the natural features that frame it.

19.1 Easternmost Terminal Station

The railway runs from Moscow in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east. The easternmost terminal is Vladivostok, a port city on the Sea of Japan. Vladivostok serves as Russia's principal Pacific naval base and a gateway for trade with East Asia. Its location on the Amur Bay makes it ice-free for much of the year, unlike many northern Siberian ports.

19.2 Most Important Agro Centre

Along the route, the railway passes through the fertile West Siberian Plain, where agriculture thrives despite the harsh climate. Omsk stands out as the most important agricultural center. Situated on the Irtysh River in the grain belt of southwestern Siberia, Omsk is surrounded by black-earth (chernozem) soils that support wheat, barley, and livestock farming. The city also functions as a major processing and distribution hub for agricultural produce moving both east and west along the railway.
