Asokamitran calls the Gemini Studios make-up department an example of national integration because it brought together people from many different regions and language groups of India — a Bengali, a Maharashtrian, a Dharwad Kannadiga, an Andhra, a Madras Indian Christian, an Anglo-Burman and local Tamils — all working together on the same task.

In Poets and Pancakes, Asokamitran describes the make-up department of Gemini Studios with gentle humour, and one of his observations is that it was a fitting example of national integration.

He was succeeded by a Maharashtrian, who was assisted by a Dharwad Kannadiga, an Andhra, a Madras Indian Christian and an Anglo-Burman, while the rest of the helpers were the usual local Tamils.
