Step 1 — Fix the base. In a common-size income statement the base is revenue from operations = 100 for each year. Every other item is expressed as a percentage of that year's revenue.

Step 2 — Compute the sub-totals in rupees first.

Total expenses = cost of materials + other expenses.

  • 2022-23: 4,80,000 + 1,60,000 = 6,40,000; 2023-24: 5,50,000 + 2,00,000 = 7,50,000. Profit before tax = Revenue − Total expenses.
  • 2022-23: 8,00,000 − 6,40,000 = 1,60,000; 2023-24: 10,00,000 − 7,50,000 = 2,50,000.

Step 3 — Express each item as a percentage of revenue.
