Spermiogenesis shapes a spermatid into a sperm; spermiation is the release of that finished sperm into the tubule lumen.

Spermiogenesis: After meiosis produces haploid spermatids inside the seminiferous tubules, these round, non-motile cells undergo a complex structural transformation into elongated, motile spermatozoa. This involves condensation of the nucleus, formation of the acrosome (from the Golgi apparatus, containing enzymes needed to penetrate the ovum), development of the flagellum (tail) from the centriole for motility, and loss of most of the cytoplasm.
