Qualitative analysis identifies which elements (C, H, N, S, halogens, P) are present in an organic compound; Kjeldahl's method is used to quantitatively estimate the percentage of nitrogen.

Qualitative analysis: this refers to tests carried out on an organic compound to detect the presence (or absence) of specific elements — carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur, halogens, and phosphorus — without determining how much of each is present. For example, nitrogen is detected via Lassaigne's test (sodium fusion, forming sodium cyanide which is then tested by forming Prussian blue with FeSO4/FeCl3).
