Using v^2 = u^2 - 2as with v = 0 and a = mu g (friction as the sole decelerating force) gives mu = u^2/(2gs) = 0.2.

Given:

Initial velocity, u = 5.6 m/s

Final velocity, v = 0 (ball comes to rest)

Distance travelled, s = 8 m

g = 9.8 m/s^2

As the ball rolls on ice, the only horizontal force decelerating it is friction. The frictional force provides a retarding (deceleration) magnitude:

a = mu g

where mu is the coefficient of (kinetic/rolling) friction.
