Resistance is the opposition a specific conductor offers to current flow (depends on its dimensions), while resistivity is an intrinsic material property independent of the conductor's shape or size.

Resistance. Resistance is defined as the opposition offered by a conductor to the flow of electric current through it. From Ohm's law,

R=VIR = \frac{V}{I}

where VV is the potential difference across the conductor and II is the current through it.

SI unit: ohm, symbol Ω\Omega (1 Ω\Omega = 1 V/A).

Resistivity. Resistivity (or specific resistance) of a material is defined via

R=ρlA  ⟹  ρ=RAlR = \rho\frac{l}{A} \implies \rho = \frac{RA}{l} …
