A changing magnetic flux through a circuit induces an emf, whose magnitude equals the rate of change of flux linkage.

Faraday's First Law: whenever the magnetic flux linked with a closed circuit changes, an emf is induced in the circuit, which lasts only as long as the change in flux continues. The flux can change due to a change in the magnetic field, the area of the circuit, or the relative orientation between the field and the circuit's plane.

Faraday's Second Law: the magnitude of the induced emf is directly proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage (flux ×\times number of turns NN):

∣ε∣=Ndϕdt|\varepsilon|=N\frac{d\phi}{dt}

Including Lenz's law (the induced emf opposes the change that produces it, via a negative sign): …
