A gene gun is a biolistic device that fires DNA-coated metal particles into cells to deliver foreign genes, mainly used for plants.

The gene gun (particle gun / biolistic method) is one of the physical methods used to introduce alien/foreign DNA into a host cell, especially useful for plant cells whose thick cell wall is difficult for other vectors (like Agrobacterium) to cross efficiently, or for organelle transformation.
