Draw and label the paired ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix and vagina, showing how the ovum passes from ovary to uterus.

The human female reproductive system lies in the pelvic region and comprises:

1. Ovaries (a pair): Almond-shaped primary female sex organs located one on each side of the lower abdomen. They produce the female gamete (ovum) and the ovarian hormones (oestrogen and progesterone). Each ovary is connected to the pelvic wall and uterus by ligaments.

2. Fallopian tubes / Oviducts (a pair): Each is about 10-12 cm long and extends from the ovary to the uterus. Its parts are:

  • Infundibulum – the funnel-shaped terminal part closer to the ovary.
  • Fimbriae – finger-like projections at the edge of the infundibulum that help collect the released ovum.
  • Ampulla – the wider middle part; site of fertilisation.
  • Isthmus – the narrow part that joins the uterus.

3. Uterus (womb): A single, hollow, pear-shaped muscular organ. Its wall has three layers – outer perimetrium, middle thick muscular myometrium, and inner glandular endometrium (which undergoes cyclic changes during the menstrual cycle and supports the implanted embryo). …
