[Co(NH3)3(NO2)3][\text{Co(NH}_3)_3(\text{NO}_2)_3] is octahedral (CN = 6); the fac isomer has the three NO2\text{NO}_2 on one face (all cis), the mer isomer has them along a meridian (two trans, one cis).

[Co(NH3)3(NO2)3][\text{Co(NH}_3)_3(\text{NO}_2)_3] is an octahedral complex of the type [Ma3b3][Ma_3b_3], which shows facial–meridional (fac–mer) geometrical isomerism.

Facial (fac) isomer: The three identical NO2\text{NO}_2 groups occupy the three corners of one triangular face of the octahedron, so they are all mutually cis (each 90° to the other two). The three NH3\text{NH}_3 ligands then occupy the opposite face.

Meridional (mer) isomer: The three NO2\text{NO}_2 groups lie in a plane (a meridian) that passes through the metal centre. Here two NO2\text{NO}_2 are trans (180° apart) and the third is cis to both. The NH3\text{NH}_3 groups occupy the remaining positions in the same manner.

Structures to draw (octahedron, metal at centre):
