Figure — The OR alternative asks to draw a sectional view of the female reproductive system, and the answer describes o

The testes lie outside the abdomen, in the scrotum, to maintain the slightly lower temperature required for sperm production; the female reproductive system consists of a pair of ovaries, fallopian tubes, the uterus, cervix, and vagina.

Why the testes are located outside the abdominal cavity: Spermatogenesis (the process of sperm formation) is a temperature-sensitive process that requires a temperature about 2–2.5°C lower than the normal core (internal) body temperature (around 37°C) for it to occur normally and efficiently.

Since the internal abdominal cavity is maintained at the higher core body temperature, the testes descend, during foetal development, out of the abdominal cavity into an external pouch called the scrotum, which lies just outside the body proper. Being external, and having specialised temperature-regulating mechanisms (like the cremaster muscle, which can pull the testes closer to or farther from the body), the scrotum can maintain the lower temperature needed for viable sperm production — this is why males with undescended testes (cryptorchidism) are often infertile.
