Consistency is compared using the coefficient of variation C.V.=σxˉ×100\text{C.V.} = \dfrac{\sigma}{\bar{x}}\times 100, not the standard deviation alone (the two batsmen have different average scores, so their standard deviations are not directly comparable).

Batsman A:

C.V.A=σAxˉA×100=550×100=10%.\text{C.V.}_A = \frac{\sigma_A}{\bar{x}_A}\times 100 = \frac{5}{50}\times 100 = 10\%.

Batsman B:

C.V.B=σBxˉB×100=640×100=15%.\text{C.V.}_B = \frac{\sigma_B}{\bar{x}_B}\times 100 = \frac{6}{40}\times 100 = 15\%. …
