Step 1. Cartilaginous joints (amphiarthroses) are of two types, and both should be drawn to answer this fully.

Step 2: Synchondrosis. Draw the end of a long bone divided into two regions: the rounded end cap, labelled epiphysis, and the long shaft, labelled diaphysis. Between them, draw a thin band and label it the epiphyseal plate, made of hyaline cartilage — this is the synchondrosis, a growth site that ossifies once growth is complete. (The rib-sternum junction is another example of this type of joint.)

Step 3: Symphysis. Draw two bones (for example, two adjacent vertebrae) meeting in the midline of the body. Between their facing surfaces, draw a flat disc and label it fibrocartilage — this is the symphysis, e.g. an intervertebral disc (the pubic symphysis, joining the two pubic bones, is another example). …
