Applications of Convection
Two everyday applications rely directly on convection. In heating (or cooling) a room, a heater (or convector) heats the air immediately around it; this heated air, now less dense, rises, while cooler, denser air from higher up sinks to take its place, is heated in turn, and rises -- setting up a continuous convection current that eventually warms the whole room. An air conditioner uses essentially the same principle in reverse, to COOL a room. …
