3. Agencies Providing Co-operative Education and Training — the Structure
In India, co-operative education and training are provided through a connected, three-tier structure that runs from a national apex body down to the district and society level. Broadly:
- National level — the National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI) is the apex organisation of the entire co-operative movement in the country. Under it, the National Council for Co-operative Training (NCCT) organises training, with the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Co-operative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune at the apex of the training system, supported by regional and state-level institutes of co-operative management.
- State level — in each state, a State Co-operative Union (in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra State Co-operative Union) is the apex body responsible for co-operative education and training within the state.
