National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI)

5. National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI)

The National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI) is the apex organisation of the entire co-operative movement in India. Its headquarters are in New Delhi, and its membership is made up of the national-level co-operative federations, the state co-operative unions and other major co-operative organisations of the country. It thus represents the co-operative movement as a whole and speaks for it at the national level.

Role and functions of the NCUI in education and training:

  • Propaganda and publicity — it carries out propaganda in favour of the co-operative movement, celebrates events such as All-India Co-operative Week, and works to build public support for co-operation.
  • Publications — it brings out journals, books, pamphlets and other literature on co-operation, in English and other languages, to educate members, personnel and the public.
  • Representing the movement — it represents the interests of the co-operative movement before the Government of India and international co-operative bodies, and advises on co-operative policy.
  • Co-ordination — it links and co-ordinates the work of the various state co-operative unions and national federations, so the movement acts in a united way. …
