What happened to her muscles: during the 15 minutes of fast, continuous running, Radha's muscles were being repeatedly activated at a high intensity, faster than her circulation could deliver oxygen to them. Under this condition, the muscles switched to the anaerobic breakdown of glycogen to generate energy quickly. This anaerobic pathway does not need oxygen, but it produces lactic acid as a waste product, and this lactic acid built up in her muscles.
